Burkina Faso trash Ethiopia 4-0 in the second game from Group C in the Nations Cup

Taking the lead in Group C, Burkina Faso's 10 men surged with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Ethiopia. FC Lorient’s Alain Traore opened the scoring sheet for Burkina Faso in the 34th minute of the game; Traore again scored his third goal of the tournament for the Stallions later in the second-half. Djakaridja Kone and Jonathan Pitroipa grabbed the third and fourth goals for Burkina Faso as they claimed their first win in the Nations Cup in 15 years.
The first-half of the match was interesting as both sides made very precise passes neither side slowing down as the action moved from one end to the other. Ethiopia started off bright and as the game went on, it seemed they could no longer keep up with the speed of the Stallions who pressured them from every angle.Despite Abdouleye Soulama being sent off for Burkina Faso right after their first strike, this did not hold the Stallions from scoring 3 more goals later on in the second-half.

Today’s victory now puts Burkina Faso at the top of Group C ahead of Nigeria and Zambia who drew 1-1 earlier in the day. While Burkina Faso can guarantee a place in the knockout stage of the competition with a draw in their final group game against Zambia, Ethiopia are in a less favorable position as they prepare to take on Nigeria next to in their final group round.
