Trailer: Will Smith plays Nigerian-American doctor, Dr. Bennet Omalu in upcoming movie, Concussion.

American actor, producer, rapper, and songwriter Will Smith’s upcoming movie, Concussion is based on the real-life story of Nigerian-American,  Dr. Bennet Ifekandu Omalu, former NFL and NCAA doctor who was the first to discover chronic traumatic encephalopathy (or CTE).  Following an autopsy on former NFL player Mike Webster, Omalu struggled to get NFL executives to recognize this disease; the movie also shows the NFL working to coerce the doctor into hiding his research.



The disease is sighted as the cause of death of several former NFL players including Junio Seau who died in 2012.
