Neymar and other footballers show solidarity with Dani Alves via social media

Barcelona striker Neymar has vowed to take a strong stand against racism after his  teammates Dani Alves had banana thrown at him during Sundays 3-2 win over Villallreal.

Footballers and officials have rallied around the Barcelona defender who was subjected to the racist abuse; Alves took a stand against racism during Sunday’s game by eating the banana that was thrown at him. The Brazilian player was preparing to take a corner at El Madrigal stadium when the banana was thrown at him, landing on the pitch next to him. The 30-year-old player complained afterwards about the whole situation which he stated has been the same for 11 years since he moved to Spain. “it has been the same for 11 year”

Fellow compatriot and team-mate Neymar along with Manchester City Sergio Aguero have since published pictures of themselves eating a banana online in solidarity.

Neymar posted a cute pics of himself with his 2-year-old son David Lucca da Silva Santos eating a banana on Instagram with captions: “ we are all monkeys, we are all the same. Say no to Racism!!”

Manchester City and Argentine striker Aguero also posted a photo of himself with 5 times FIFA Women’s player of the year Marta eating bananas. While teammate Fernandinho also joined the campaign by posting a picture of an angry chimpanzee clutching a banana. Fellow Brazilian Hulk also posted a picture of his entire family eating the fruit.


FIFA’S President Sepp Blatter has since condemned the act, the long-standing president took to Twitter on Monday to express his thoughts =: What @DaniAlvesD2 tolerated last nigh is an outrage. We must fight all forms of discrimination united. Will be zero tolerance at #WorldCup.”
Sunday's match was Barca's first game since the death of former coach Tito Vilanova on Friday.
Updates:Villarreal have identified the fan and he has been issued a life ban
Villarreal issued a statement Monday saying it "deeply regrets" the incident. "The club has identified the person responsible and has decided to withdraw his membership card and prohibit access to the El Madrigal Stadium for life," it added.
