Presidential welcome awaits reigning AFCON Champions, the Super Eagles.

After almost 2 decades of waiting, the Super Eagles on Sunday finally clinched the Crown as Africa’s reigning champions at the African Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso.
The winning goal came 40 minutes into the first-half of the match from home-based Super Eagle, Sunday Mba. The Warri Wolves player had a rare opportunity in the game and did not take it for granted as he lifted the ball over Burkinabe defender, koffi before going for the powerful kick that planted the ball in Stallions net. Mba scored his first goal of the tournament against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, his winning goal was his second of the tournament. Mba’s goal was the defining factor in today’s game, it also ended Nigeria’s 19-year wait for the trophy.
Although the Stallions had 51% ball possession, the Super Eagles held their ground with 49% possession. The Eagles missed several opportunities to double their advantage late into the second half but it was Nigeria’s No.1 goalkeeper Enyeama that saved the day with his amazing save just 2 minutes before the final whistle.

The Eagles have secured the right to represent Africa at the FIFA Confederations Cup taking place later in the year in Brazil in addition to winning the first place prize of  $1.5million.
Nigerian President Jonathan and wife Patience.
The Super Eagles will be received at a special reception by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday in the country’s capital of Abuja, Nigeria.
The champions are slated to fly directly to Abuja by 3am local time, while the reception is fixed for 7pm Nigerian time at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
