African Cup of Nations:Saturday's qualifier- The Eagles are flying again

Nigeria 6-1 Liberia (Agg :8-3)

Victory for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they faced Liberia in the final round of the qualifiers today at the U.J Esuene stadium in Calabar Nigeria. Setting the Super Eagles on their way, Efe Ambrose scored the first goal in the first minute of the game and with a pass from Emmanuel Emenike, Ahmed Musa doubled the score line, Ikechukwu Uche aslo made the score sheet for the Super Eagles and goals from Chelsea FC players Victor Moses who scored twice and Jon Obi Mikel with the penalty shot help seal the deal for the Super Eagles who ended up with a 6-1 win over Liberia.

Uganda 1-0 Zambia, (Agg: 1-1)- Zambia won 9-8 on penalties.

Current African champions Zambia narrowly won through a penalty shoot-out after they were held to am aggregate of 1-1 by Uganda. Although Uganda dominated the game, they however failed to complete the task when Patrick Ochan missed the very important spot-kick in sudden death sending Zambia on their way to South Africa to defend their title at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Senegal VS Ivory Coast-game abandoned

After crowd trouble at the Stade Leopold on Saturday, the Senegal and Ivory Coast faceoff in the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifiers has been abandoned. Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba scored through a free-kick in 52nd  minute and a second goal from a penalty putting Ivory Coast ahead in the game. However, 76 minutes into the game, fans started hurling firecrackers at their own players and visiting fans forcing the two sides and their coaching staffs to hide in the center circle, one of the match officials was reported to have been hit with a projectile. In the first leg of the qualifiers, Ivory Coast defeated Senegal by 4-2. The Elephants are expected to be awarded a win and qualify for the CAF 2013 finals.

Ghana 1- 0 Malawi (Agg:0-3)
Moving ahead easily with a 1-0 victory over Malawi and earning a ticket to AFCON 2013, Ghana became the first team to qualify in Lilongwe. Barely 3 minutes into the match, Ghana’s Afrile Acquah shot the winning goal for the Black Stars from a corner.

Mali 4-1 Botswana (Agg:1-7)
Goals from Cheikh Tidiane Diabate, Modibo Maiga, Mahamadou Samassa and Abdou Traore has help book a ticket for Mali in the 2013 African Cup of Nations. Mali’s 4-1 win over Botswana in Lobatse gave them an unquestionable 7-1 aggregate victory.

Tunisia 0-0 Sierra Leone (Agg:2-2)
With either side failing to score a goal, Tunisia was able to secure their qualification on the away goals rule. Aside from a disallowed goal, chances of winning for Sierra Leone seemed even slimmer when Djibril Sanko was dismissed from the game for a poor challenge on Tunisia’s Hamdi Harbaoui.


Morocco 4-0 Mozambique (Agg:4-2)


Final game of the day was between Morocco and Mozambique. Following the first leg defeat, Morocco aimed at overturning a 2 goal deficit under their new coach Rachid Taoussi, and  on Saturday, Morocco had a stunning comeback with a 4-0 win over Mozambique putting them on their  way with new coach Taoussi  to AFCON 2013. Abdelaziz Barrada scored just before the end of the first-half, Houssine Kharja scored the second goal for his side and goals from Yousef Al Arabi and Nordin Amrabat completed the amazing comeback for Morocco.
