Didier Drogba recalled to the Ivorian national team

After being away from his national duty for almost 6 months, Ivorian and former Chelsea FC striker Didier Drogba has been recalled to the Ivory Coast squad for the August 14 friendly against Mexico.

Drogba was dropped for the first time during the Nations Cup and Coach Sabri Lamouchi then left him out of World Cup qualifiers in March and June. The Elephant, who were much rather considered “favorites” in the competition failed to live up to their reputation as they crashed out of the competition in the quarterfinals.

Following Drogba’s absence from the team, there were lots of speculations including a supposed rift between Lamouchi and the Ivorian international, however, he was quick to reply that the captain of the his team will return only when in top shape. No doubt, Drogba is doing just that, he was in top shape over the weekend helping Galatasaray win a pre-season mini-tournament at Arsenal
