Ringing in the New Year in style as United, City and Spurs cruised in their first game of the year.

Happy New Year all!

Today,  the very first day of the year, Manchester United had every reason to ring in the New Year with joy as they cruised in their game against Wigan Athletic maintaining their number 1 spot on Barclays Premier League table. Both Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie scored twice for Premier League leaders Manchester United giving them a 4-0 win over Wigan. Trailing closely behind on the table is Manchester City, The Sky Blues  clenched a comfortable 3-0 win over Stoke City today, and even with a very determined Stoke side who were coming from a ten-match unbeaten run , City were held on till victory keeping them 7 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.
Coming from behind, Tottenham Hotspur climbed to 3rd place on the table by defeating second-bottom Reading 3-1 at White Hart Lane. First goal of the game which came from Stoke City's Pavel Pogrebnyak in the 4th minute almost deterred Tottenham from clenching the victory but the lead lasted just over four minutes as Gylfi Sigurdsson scored his first goal since 2011, however, it was Clint Dempsey's deflected effort 11 minutes from time that sealed the win for CIty.
