Ethiopian Antelopes ready to face Africa as they make long awaited AFCON comeback


It is the first time the  Ethiopian squad has qualified for the AFCON competition in 31 years, and even though they are a bit rusty, the  Walyas Antelopes are confident they will defy expectations and proceed to the knock-out stage of the tournament.
In a rare and unexpected achievement, the Walyas beat Tanzania 2-1 on Saturday to claim a triumphant end of preparations ahead of the Orange Africa cup of nations 2013 to kick off Saturday January 19 in South Africa.US based, Fuad Ibrahim put the Walia Antelopes ahead just 13 into the encounter but Tanzania’s Shaaban Nditi put both sides at the same level in the 51st. 18 minutes after, Shemelese Bikele’s header ended the ball at the bottom of the net making it 2-1 for the Walias.
In their AFCON warm-up matches, Ethiopia beat Niger 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Tunisia before Saturday’s win over Tanzania. They are now preparing to face title holders Zambia on 21 January in South African city Nelspruit.
