Sierra Leone: Victor Kayode Eligible to Play for Leone Stars
Nigeria-born midfielder, Victor Kayode will be making his
first appearance for Sierra Leone today after doubts about his eligibility to
represent the country was cleared. The eligibility of the 25-year-old midfielder
who plays in Azerbaijan was questioned by BBC sports after he was selected by Coach
Lars Olof Mattsson for the last qualifying round of the African Cup of Nations against
Tunisia in August. Following this, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA)
wrote a letter to FIFA in August seeking clarification over the player’s
eligibility.
The mystery has since been solved as it turns out his maternal
grandfather was born in Sierra Leone, Kayode however was born in Ondo state to
Nigerian parents.
