South Sudan Refugee to Run Marathon in Olympic Colours

Following his Country’s failure to set up an Olympic Committee in the upcoming Olympics, South Sudanese
marathon runner, Guor Marial has recently won his bid to run in the 2012 Olympic
that will be held in London. Born in what is now the Republic of South Sudan,
Guor Marial will not be wearing the flag of the newly independent country in
the 2012 Olympics. Marial fled to the US during Sudan’s two-decade civil war,
the 28 year old athlete turned down an
offer to join the Sudanese team, with games opening Friday, the Olympic
Committee suggested earlier that Marial runs representing Sudan who lost about
28 family members in the war.
