As the Super Eagles of Nigeria played in an unsatisfactory
game which ended in a 2-2 draw against the visiting Syli Nationals of Guinea at
the National Stadium in Abuja, they crashed out of next year's Africa Nations
Cup final which will be held in both Equitorial Guinea and Gabon. Policemen and
related security agents had a hectic time curbing the rage of angry football
fans. Following the failure of the Super Eagles to secure the required win over
the Syli National of Guinea, Nigeria will not be making an appearance at the
2012 Nations’ Cup tournament. The last time Nigeria was stopped from qualifying
for the competition was in 1986 when the tourney was staged in Egypt. Nigeria
was eliminated by Zambia.
Earlier on in the game, Super Eagles strikers missed several
scoring chances which did not go down well with the fans. The fans began
cheering the visitors while they booed the Eagles. The fans at the stadium were swayed to their
side once again when the Super Eagles eventually equalized. The fans became
overjoyed once again when the eagles increased the tally to 2 while the
Guineans still had one goal. However, this joy will be short-lived as the
second goal by Traore Ibrahima became too much for the fans to bear; many of the
fans began streaming out of the stadium. Shock and disbelief was written on
their faces as some of the fans went crazy after the match. Their hope that the
Super Eagles would participate in the 2012 Africa Nations Cup to be co-hosted
by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea had vanished. Some of the fans who could not
control their emotions threw bottles at officials of Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) and policemen. Others chanted "Siasia Must go"
