Die later revealed that he was overcome with emotions as he and his teammate stood moments away from representing their country in their Group C match against Colombia on Thursday.

Die's tears as the anthems played before they faced Colombia in Brasillia
led to rumors on Twitter that his father, who died in 2004 had
passed away two hours before the match which they lost 2-1. However,
the midfielder confirmed that it was the emotion of the occasion;
this is he's first World Cup after barely joining the team over a
year ago.
Speaking
the 29-year-old FC Basel player said: “ I was going to play for my
country, but it's true that I thought about my father who died in
2004” he said.
