The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday concluded their
warm-up for the upcoming Nations Cup with a final friendly in Faro, Portugal, the
Eagles ended their training camp in style defeating Portuguese club Farense by 5-0.
The game was again held at the Browns
Sports and Leisure Club in Faro, this is the same facility the Eagles have been
using to train in Portugal.
Barely 5 minutes into the game, Celtics star Efe Ambrose
made the first attempts only to be hacked down in the penalty area; Chelsea’s
Mikel Obi however completed his goal by converting the penalty for Nigeria. The
game was not all that easy as Farense had some good comebacks; Senegal-born
striker Sone Diop and Fabio Texeira posed as great threats for the Eagles all
through the first-half as they were both in search of an equalizer. However, Ikechukwu
uche made it 2-0 for the Eagles in the 75th minute, when he met Emenike’s cross
after a good work on the left wing which began when Agbim set him up in a quick
counter attack. Uche scored his second goal for Nigeria in the 80th minute
after getting a through ball from Ejike Uzoenyi, and as the minutes ticked
away, Uche again found the back of the net through a hat trick following passes
from Onazi and Ejike. Emenike concluded the 5-0 victory for the Eagles right
before the referee blew the final whistle.
Here’s hoping this is not just a showcase of power pass power and that there will be more of this performance, as the Eagles head out to South Africa tomorrow, one can only hope that we will once again experience this spectacular performance in the Nations Cup. Fly Eagles Fly.
