Africans showing off big time @ Chelsea’s Wednesday night 3-0 victory over FC Schalke

Thanks to Chelsea’s newest addition, Samuel Eto’o, the Blues are now 3 points clear at the top of the group. Cameroonian international Eto’o scored 2 goals and thanks to Senegalese international Demba Ba’s goal, the Blues were able to complete a very defensive game at Stamford Bridge against German side FC Schalke ending the night with a 3-0 victory.

It is clear that the 32-year-old three-time African player of the year has a big role to play in Mourinho’s scheme to see Chelsea back at the top for this season. Eto'o, who was in the side in place of the injured Fernando Torres,  was one of six changes to the team, with Eden Hazard not making the squad after Mourinho said he "missed a crucial training session".

As he announced earlier, Mourinho was certain in the wake of the St James' Park setback, made six changes to the side, but he downplayed his action speaking after Wednesday night's win…

'It was nothing to do with dropping this player or that player, it was to do with the team's mentality, and they were strong,' he said.
'We started a bit nervous and made a lot of mistakes. We lost a lot of balls in dangerous positions and we allowed Schalke to counter-attack with some danger. They had two good situations but after that our team recovered the balance and we controlled the game.'

Mourinho is not so sure if Eto’o is his favorite yet, but judging by his showcase of talent, let’s say, it’s a matter of time, when asked if Samuel Eto'o is one of his favorite players…
'My favourite players are the players that win matches for me, not the ones that lose matches for me, and Samuel worked with me in the best season of my career when we won everything [at Inter], so he is in a good position.
