Nigerian international and Chelsea
midfielder John Mikel Obi has pulled out of Wednesday’s match against South
Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban due to
a stomach bug.
Super Eagles head Coach Stephen
Keshi revealed that Mikel will not be part of this year’s Nelson Mandela
challenge due to the stomach infection.
According to Kickoff, Keshi stated:
“Mikel has been withdrawn from the squad. He has a stomach bug.”
The 26-year old midfielder along
with two other Super Eagles starlets, Emmanuel Emenike and Kenneth Omeruo will
not be present for this very prestigious friendly. The Super Eagles had hoped
to use this game as a warm-up for their final 2014 FIFA World Cup Group F
qualifying game against Malawi next month.
