Kenyan footballer who plays as defensive midfielder or center back for Scottish Premier League side Celtic Victor
Wanyama's long-mooted move to Southampton has been completed. The
midfielder left Celtic for a Scottish record fee reported to be £12million.
After much ado, the highly-rated
22-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at St Mary's.
Wanyama tweeted: 'I have a day of
mixed emotion. Happy to play in EPL,honoured to be the 1st Kenyan to play in EPL...But
VERY SAD TO leave PARADISE.'
Wanyama, who joined Celtic 2 years
ago for £900,000 from the Belgian side Beerschot had initially rejected the
chance to move to St Mary's and speculated approaches from other Premier League
sides never materialized. Wanyama had been removed from the Celtic squad for
Tuesday night's 6-2 friendly loss to Greuther Fruth in Germany as he agreed the
details of his long-term contract.
