Nigeria's Mikel Obi blames strikers for Super Eagles early exit from CONFED Cup

Following the 3-0 loss to Spain, Nigerian international and Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi blasts Super Eagles striker for their early exit from the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the 26-year-old midfielder stated that the strikers were wasteful in front of goal. Mikel stated that the chances created by the team were too numerous but were simply not converted.

“We came out to defeat the Spain and I think we even had a better possession against the world champions, but we simply did not take our chances and they took theirs, so we paid dearly for our mistakes and are now out of the competition," lashed out a disappointed Mikel.

To be fair, Nigeria played really well however, Spain had excellent strikers for their side. Mikel also described Spain as a fantastic side but had it been Nigeria strikers were potent enough, it would have been a different result.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have departed Brazil en route Lagos on Monday.

The team are to stop over in Johannesburg, South Africa, before landing in Lagos.

Some of the foreign-based players will not be part of the returning party as they jetted out to either join their clubs for pre-season training or plan for new bases for the coming season in Europe, which begins in the August.
