Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote starts for Newcastle United despite arrest on fraud claims

Cheik Tioté was among the starting line alongside Yohan Cabaye in the heart of Newcastle United’s midfield against Metalist Kharviv despite his arrest on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences on Tuesday.

Although Newcastle played pretty, they were held to a goalless draw by Metalist Kharkiv in the last 32 of the Europa League. Papiss Cisse twice had the ball in the net, only to be denied by the assistant's flag with each decision looking close.

The 26-year-old Ivorian midfielder was stopped by police on Tuesday near the club's training ground on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences; his £75,000 car was seized by Northumbria police.
A Northumbria police Spokesperson said: "At about 1.30pm on February 12, a car was stopped on Benton Park Road, Newcastle, and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences."
Police also have confirmed that inquiries are ongoing.

Newcastle will travel to Ukraine for the second leg next Thursday.
