Nigerian international Efe Ambrose is set to become the
subject of a transfer tussle as major Premier League clubs are waiting in line
to sign the 24-year-old Celtic defender.
According to the Sun UK, Celtic boss Neil Lennon admitted at
the weekend that clubs want his Nigerian stopper. Lennon admitted Ambrose had
admirers but insisted the likes of Liverpool would have to look elsewhere.
“Efe has been brilliant for us and there’s been a lot of
interest in him,” said Lennon. “There is definite interest from top teams, not
just in England but on the continent as well.
Ambrose who signed a three-year deal when he made a
£1.5million switch from Israeli side Ashdod less than six months ago could
possibly move south when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
Right after his return from South Africa, the AFCON Champion
was recently criticized for a few mistakes which lead to 2 of Juventus’ goal in
their last outing; Juventus won 3-0 over Celtics.
Ambrose’s spectacular performance in Nigeria’s AFCON victory
has not gone unnoticed, Neil Lennon will have to keep a close eye on the
player as Swansea and Liverpool are already keeping tabs on the 24-year-old.Liverpool
is looking for another center-back after Jamie Carragher announced his
retirement at the end of the season.
