Burkina Faso surprised a lot of spectators when they won over Ghana in their semifinals game. The history makers are not done yet, the Burkinabe will make their first-ever appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations finals later today.
The Burkinabe are relieved to have Jonathan Pitroipia back as his ban was overturned by CAF Saturday, however, top scorer Alain Traore will not feature in today’s game due an injury he sustained right before the knock-out stage.
Enyeama, Moses, Obi-Mikel |
Two-time champions Nigeria (1980, 1994) hope to bounce back as Africa’s favorite as they face Burkina Faso for the second time in this year’s tournament, their first encounter was in Group D, both sides ended the game with 1 goal apiece.
The Super Eagles are faced with real injury concerns as key players Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike were left out of training Friday.
The Super Eagles are faced with real injury concerns as key players Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike were left out of training Friday.
Chelsea winger Victor Moses twisted his left ankle in the
second half of their last encounter against Mali, while AFCON top scorer
Emenike suffered a muscle injury also sustained against Mali.
With doubts still lingering about their fitness, Super
Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi who could become the second person ever to win the
Nations Cup as player and Coach will
only decide on Sunday whether to start Moses or Emenike in the match.
No need to worry, we got this, here Keshi offers some encouraging
words for fans: "I can understand the apprehension
of the public over the two players [Moses and Emenike] but we must be a little
patient, because I know that the two of them want to play in the final and the
medical team is working round the clock."-Coach Keshi.
Much like me, a lot of you are unsure if the SEagles will win the much coveted Cup, but we can’t all be scurrred (in the words of Madia), I like to believe this is our year; it’s been too long, 13 years too long.
My Predictions- Nigeria 2- Burkina Faso 1
