Amid speculations that John Mikel Obi may not be eligible to
play for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s clash against the Elephants of Cote
d’Ivoire in the Qfinals of the Nations Cup, CAF listed Mikel to have received only
a caution card in Eagles last group match against Ethiopia. Going by CAF’s
rule, players who receive just one yellow card were allowed to play in
subsequent matches as the caution is waved. Only those with two are ineligible.
The rule however automatically excludes Vallerenga FC’s
Fegor Ogude, from the game against the Elephants.
The Super Eagles have
10 yellow cards till date in the tournament, the players include Ahmed Musa, Fegor
Ogude (2 yellow cards and will have to miss Sunday’s match), Efe(had two yellow
cards prior to their encounter with Zambia), Godfrey Oboabona, Emmanuel
Emenike, Mikel and Nosa Igiebor got the cards that have been waved with the end
of the group stage.
