The International Federation
of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS)names Andrés Iniesta the
2012 World's Best Playmaker ahead of Xavi and Messi
Barcelona star Lionel Messi
who won the award last year was ranked world's third best playmaker in 2012
behind Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, Xavi won the award successively from
2008 through 2011.
Three players from FC
Barcelona again claimed the first three places in this year’s award, since the
inception of the World’s best playmaker award in 2006; the award has gone to FC
Barcelona players five out of seven times.
Election of the World Best
Playmaker is done by selected editorial staff and experts from the entire
football continent. This year's
"Top 15" is composed of 11 Europeans, three South Americans
and an African, Manchester City star Yaya Touré is the only African on the
list.
Despite Messi’s
record-breaking year in which he scored 91 times beating Gerd Muller's
long-standing haul of most goals in a calendar year which eventually earned him
a 4th FIFA Ballon d'Or award ahead of Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo, the
25-year-old Argentine finished at third place in the voting with 48 points. The
award is another acknowledgement for Iniesta as the 28-year-old Spaniard gave
some impressive performances both for his national team and of
"Barça" in 2012
